Only 360 km from Buenos Aires, Tandil is well known for its beautiful countryside and because the city offers a varied cuisine and a wide list of places to visit, both in the urban area and in the outskirts of the city. For all these reasons, we chose to visit it during these winter holidays and we invite you to join us!

El Parque Lítico La Movediza albergó hasta 1912 una piedra de granito de más de 300 toneladas que se mantenía en perfecto equilibro sobre una pequeña base, balanceándose levemente. Si bien hace ya años que la piedra cayó, hoy podemos disfrutar de ver la original partida en tres partes al pie de una ladera, o bien optar por visitar su réplica, anclada en el lugar exacto en donde se encontraba la original.

Tandil’s Lithic Rock or just the Rocking Stone (La Movediza) was a huge block of granite which remained in curious oscillating balance for decades until 1912, when it fell to the void and split into two pieces at the bottom of the hill. Today, we can visit a copy of the original rock, made from fiberglass, which was set up in the same place where the original stood.

El Cerro Centinela se sitúa a 6 km del centro de la ciudad. Para quienes quieran gozar de un poco de adrenalina, recomendamos las actividades que permiten escalar hasta la cima, coronada con una piedra de granito vertical cuya forma remite a la de un soldado haciendo guardia. Nosotros elegimos subir en las aerosillas hasta la cúspide, para deleitarnos allí con alfajores y colaciones.

The Mount Centinela is located 6 km from downtown. For those who want a bit of adrenaline, we recommend activities that allow you to climb to the top, where there is a large rock – which refers to a soldier standing guard – that has been standing on another rock in perfect balance for thousands of years. We chose to take the chairlift and enjoy a marvelous view of the city and environs and have a great meal.

Piedra Centinela / The Centinel

El Monte Calvario, que en su cima tiene una gran escultura de Cristo en la Cruz, premia a sus visitantes con un espacio cargado de espiritualidad y tranquilidad. El Vía Crucis, al que se accede luego de subir 195 escalones, está compuesto por 14 emotivas estaciones que reproducen el camino recorrido por Jesús hacia la crucifixión.

The Mount Calvary, and the great sculpture of Christ on the Cross at the top of the mount, rewards visitors with a space full of spirituality and tranquility. The Way of the Cross attracts believers with fourteen groups of sculptures illustrating the various stations of the Cross, which finally end in the Christ on the Cross.

El Parque Independencia, a sólo 10 cuadras del centro de Tandil, llama la atención de quienes lo visitamos por su pórtico de entrada y por el Castillo Morisco emplazado en la cima del cerro, ambos regalos de la colectividad italiana y española para el centenario de la ciudad. Recomendamos este recorrido porque nos resultó un excelente mirador de la zona urbana y porque nos sorprendió con un increíble restaurante en el interior del castillo.

Independence Park, just a few blocks from the city centre, attract attention of people who visit it by its entrance portico of renaissance style and the Moorish Castle at the top of the hill, donated by the Italian and Spanish community for the centenary of the city. We recommend this tour because it was an excellent viewpoint of the urban area and because we were surprised with an amazing restaurant inside the Castle.

Parque Independencia / Independence Park

En la zona del Lago del Fuerte, a unos 2 km de la ciudad, no sólo podremos practicar actividades deportivas al aire libre, sino que también podremos visitar el Mercado Artesanal de Tandil y conocer el monumento a Don Quijote.

Fort Lake, about 2 km from the city, is ideal for nautical activities, cycling, walks, fishing and family outings. At the centre of the lake there is an artificial geyser. We can also visit the Handicraft Fair of Tandil and the Don Quixote Monument.

Antes de irnos de la ciudad, no pudimos no deleitarnos con una picada en alguno de sus tradicionales almacenes. Elegimos Época de Quesos para disfrutar de los mejores productos de la región, principalmente quesos caseros, chacinados y embutidos.

Before leaving the town, we cannot forget to taste a “picada” in one of its traditional restaurants. We chose Época de Quesos to enjoy the best products of the region, mainly a smorgasbord of cheeses and cold cuts of sausages, salami and other interesting looking meats.
